Mike Kelley, the installation artist who counted the band Sonic Youth and artist Paul McCarthy among his collaborators, has died, he was 57. It appeared he had committed suicide, police said on Wed. 1 Feb. 2012.


雖然過去 一方面: 受限於購買的局促 Sonic Youth並不在我買的行列; 二方面: Sonic Youth 在八O年代開始出道的幾張代表作 設計無法引起我'買'的興趣; 圖樣上 帶著美式粗糙具象/ 甚至邪氣內容的風格 這讓我避遠.. 邪氣的品味 在八O年代的 工業之聲( 如 SPK) 或 軍樂民謠( 如 Death In June) 的設計上 也多有所見, 雖然樣式是相較簡潔.. 主要原因應該還是在於樂風, Sonic Youth 始終並非我心中一杯茶; 如 1986年 Ivo煞有其事的將美國搖滾女聲團 Throwing Muses安插到英國 4AD成隊唯作夢為務的唯美框框裡 出版的包裝 雖然也好看, 但我的 4AD行頭 Pixies還有, Throwing Muses還是一張也沒有。

當 1988年 Sonic Youth雙唱片的代表作 Daydream Nation 以極潔的封面亮支燭光 放在唱片行架上; 這進口新發行的'新鮮感' 當下的誘因 畢竟沒讓我買下手; 心裡上 倒也不盡然是設想: 等以後出單張 CD買才划算.. '88年市場的大餅還是唱片的; 而 1992年 趁了 卡拉揚 Karajan對於唱片 說是: '煤氣燈'時代的產物, 亮晶晶的 CD後來居上 毫不遲疑的大眾 接納數位為主流。 Dirty CD是 BMG給我 我堆在置物櫃好幾年沒搭理 好幾年後( 也有那時候..) 在不願身邊障物多到無處躲 隨之清理的念頭下 雖然 CD膠殼底 藏著'好一張"超怪"情色照'.. 還是隨 Test Dept(!), All About Eve(!!) '唱片'(!!!) 無合理解釋 賤讓給舊舊的 擠身大樓公寓裡頭的收購二手店。 呵.. 當時已經紅透半邊天的 Nirvana 我連開口向 BMG要他一張 CD的念頭都沒有..

時空到 2012年, 數位音樂檔當家 要聽音樂 不管以何種音效為前提 不見得一定需要消費.. 一張專輯 你可以聽到'確定'要買 才以一美元不到的代價 慢慢挑著下載; CD在市場顯得不值一文的疲態 多已改口稱'黑膠'的唱片 不管因為什麼背景 慢慢崛起於市場 但是在當下 唱片的消費顯得和'收藏'有了更緻密的等號 意味: 他的價格可以是被哄抬的。 唱片的發行物在'物以稀為貴'的道理下 目前的市場價格像是任賈叫價 而我們還有興趣回到過去 汲汲營營找尋心水收購'實體'的情景? 當前 買唱片的行為 是刻意得多.. 情況是: 生活在台灣 勢已找不回逛唱片行買'黑膠唱片'的趣味。

當前的唱片 觀感多很游離 質感做得比過去好 但脫離 八O情懷的質樸 時下仍少不了噱頭與花俏之嫌; 許多再版品的新風貌 是否牴觸愛樂心裡'尊崇原版'的曲衷? 這還是個'不確定的當下 走向不明確的消費'; 而我經歷這些年 才回頭聽 Sonic Youth。 Sonic Youth 當年的 Dirty雙唱片 膠片就做成明亮的橘色, 1995年 主唱 Thurston Moore的個人首張專輯 Psychic Hearts是透明的深綠色。 2010年由 Original Recordings Group重發的 Sonic Youth四張八O年代專輯 設計的粗糙觀感並無更替 但在價格並不斐的前提下 四張的膠片 都帶有玄機.. Confusion Is Sex是白色, Bad Moon Rising橘色, Sister桃紫色, EVOL甚而是很唯美的粉紅。 上述帶特別色的大理石紋膠片 在原本價格就不斐的前提下 又通通被限定為'限量版'。 雖然幾經掙扎 是否該在這時候 才回頭買 Sonic Youth唱片呢? 當我'難得的'在唱片架上看到 Confusion Is Sex擺著, 價格被標上逾千元 和手伸進口袋的行徑比較 其實我在質問自己: 你是否確定你要在當前隨之起舞??

R I P: 當年爲 Dirty封面做出'可愛'填充布偶的 Mike Kelley 今年二月初 於洛杉磯住處 自殺身亡; 他即是出現在 Dirty專輯內頁的肖像人物。

也 聽聞來自 蘇格蘭 的 Lowlife, 當他們恢宏的節拍, 是升騰 " 悲 昂 " 之歌 . .

同樣來自蘇格蘭, 2006 年現身樂壇的 The Twilight Sad, 嘗在他們 2008 年的 mini album " Here, It Never Snowed. Afterwards It Did " 裡, 有感噪音音響鋪陳的愔愔曲調。 熟料 2009 年的 " Forget the Night Ahead " 第二張作品, 擺脫迴響在首張專輯 " Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters " 潛隱的騷動, 歌名變成簡潔, 音樂意圖把脾味放大, 挾噪音為不等人的躁鬱, 一股腦揮灑 " 悲 憤 " 的塗鴉 . .

在這時代, 八O 年頭追尋知性搖滾心靈的美麗樂音, 音訊渺茫。 若說 Breathless， Lowlife 一班樂團, 嘗藉搖滾脈動, 重塑心目中, 企望的世界觀； 時至現今, The Twilight Sad 一昧要擺脫的, 是這世界糾纏的包袱。 而我們日益被陰影追逐, 那沒有理由, 卻無所不在, 隨行的闇陰 . .
