上個世紀的事。 當時我朋友宣稱 他的 CD都可以賣掉不留 和我分析: 音樂就是音符的組合。 到頭來 所有組合的機率都玩過 就再也不會有有趣的東西。 我這位朋友, 1986年 CD才剛在日本上市, 已經託人從海外買光碟, 用這來聽音樂。 在那'新'音樂才剛開始在台灣推廣起步的時間點 他的作為 顯得極為'奢侈'與'前衛'。

時至他跟我說: 音樂都可以不聽了.. 直到現在 我人足足比他多聽了 12年好音樂, 我得到什麼? 什麼是當之無愧的好音樂? 這讓我常想到 P r e f a b S p r o u t 的好歌- 在他們音樂的世界 人是特別容易滿足。

為什麼原因 我人還在 2012音樂中跌宕不群? 是我一直以來慾求不飽; 還是這世界一如過往 美好的創意源源不絕? 12年後 若我對自己說的話是: 錯 過 什 麼 都 無 所 謂.. 我 再 也 不 要 感 到 惋 惜。 那 2012, 是我從 1 9 9 0 年始, 習於年終選單在媒體公諸的發表; 輾轉到目前 部落格的書寫 還在助長此風.. 時至 2 0 1 2 年 將是絕響 這並不會可惜。

這位朋友 當年不聽音樂的時間 都拿去卡拉 OK練唱。 每在他的樓下 人已依稀可辯 樓上的載歌載舞。 這些年後, 我人還在音樂裡頭遊蕩, 當時混 KTV的一幫人, 早已盡散。 我的朋友 這下還剩什麼人生的樂趣呢? 可能我們記起: 這支曲子 還未唱盡 ..這 真 是 一 首 好 歌 。

當注意力不是被英俊抓走的時候 我時時在心頭縈繞的問號 是誰的專輯 該擺 The Smiths 旁邊呢?

請別告訴我你的 CD櫃 從 A字頭排到 Z字尾 我還沒認識過這般人 若真有這般人 那你聽國語嗎?
至少我知道 大家收納都有自己的一套 你的 The Smiths 旁邊要擺誰?

我時常在想 Morrissey, Lawrence, Lloyd, Paddy 和 Paul， 他們各是 80s 的好團 The Smiths, Felt, Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, Prefab Sprout 及 The Housemartins 的主唱; 其中的 Morrissey 和 Paul 不會樂器 ( M是摸鋼琴, P會口琴) 但後者寫歌的角色吃重

Morrissey 應該會說: 想這麼多幹嘛.. 我最想擺 Dead or Alive 旁邊 ( M和 Pete Burns 在八零年代就是好友) The Smiths 右邊既然可擺 Dead or Alive, 那左邊就可放 Frankie Goes to Hollywood ( M應該會很樂..)

但這不是我收納的習慣。我時常在想 取其前三: 誰最想成家呢?
答案無非是 Lloyd。 誰最像嬉皮呢?
答案無非是 Lawrence。 誰最樂於當明星呢?
答案無非是 Morrissey。 and Paul Heaton 最像臭男人 and Paddy McAloon 最會說故事。 Lloyd 和 M都是風相: 寶瓶和雙子; Lawrence火相獅子, Paul土相金牛, Paddy水相巨蟹

如果說聽 The Smiths 或續聽 Morrissey 的人口 市場有所區隔 ( 只是在這塊市場的 又聽得死忠) 那 The Housemartins 應該是五者裡 最賣座的。 他們的 London 0 Hull 4 是白金唱片, Paul 後續的 The Beautiful South, 除了續有佳作 生命一直到 2007年才解散。 Prefab Sprout 和 The Beautiful South 是上述名字裡 有女團員的兩組。

Lawrence, Morrissey, Lloyd 都會被人冠上"文人" "詩人" 尤其越往前 越見其脾性。 只是一成家有小孩了， 一功成名就不知還缺甚麼?( 還失落嗎?)， 一如實落魄到投靠 80s的好友 Peter Astor ( The Weather Prophets), 脾胃真不盡相同.. 若說讀 Byron, Shelley 和 Keats 的詩 他們都是浪漫巨擘 氣味卻逕庭.. 若說 Morrissey 有意的隱晦 和詩情
他的隔壁該 Lawrence; 若說 Morrissey 敘事的條理 和主流獻媚
他的比鄰是該 Lloyd；ε他們都是清新吉他音樂訴情的一代門宗

前三者 讓人意外 幾乎是沒交集.. 連翻唱大王 Lloyd ( 這稱謂是我自己冠的) 都沒買 The Smiths的帳.. 倒 The Beautiful South 唱了 The Smiths.. 恩.. 好樣的! :P 真臭男人

愛上某個樂團/藝人 日後對其作品失望的例子並不少見
Prefab Sprout 是少數 作品不會教人失望的團體
主唱 Paddy McAloon 那似乎澆不息的創作靈感 和唱故事的歌喉是保證; 雖然在樂迷心中 很難再有一張專輯 超越他們 1985 年的經典 Steve McQueen (Two Wheels Good)
但聽到視力受損的 Paddy McAloon 還在譜寫、還在製作、還在為人生中的故事發聲
還是教愛樂人心動
