The record company had originally intended to release it in the UK but felt this would be inappropriate following the Hungerford massacre (the lyrics contain a reference to "mass murder"). So I Started Something I Couldn't Finish became the second of three UK singles from the band's last studio album Strangeways, Here We Come, rleased after they had announced their split.


In July 1987, Johnny Marr left The Smiths permanently because he thought an NME article entitled "Smiths to Split" was planted by Morrissey. It alleged that Morrissey disliked Marr working with other musicians, and that Marr and Morrissey's personal relationship had reached breaking point.

'Stop Me.. ' was originally supposed to be released as a single and a music video was filmed by Tim Broad, and opens with a picture of Oscar Wilde hanging on a brick wall, and features scenes of the group-iconic Salford Lads Club and surrounding areas being bicycled through.. w i k i

一切因為網路；而我們對於這世界 時興的好奇 與分享的積極 你我成了推波助瀾 最大的輔手； 這個世界包括了: 音樂的世界。 而 copyrights在這 站在尷尬的位置─ 當什麼時候開始, YouTube的轉型 接納愛樂上載/下載無數的 官方的 自創的 過去的 最新的"完整"視聽檔案 ─版權主為了宣傳戰, 樂迷為了貢獻一己 相輔這裡順勢成了視聽最佳管道 那約莫都是 20O8年過後 進行的事

說回 20O8, 當年兩個新的大名 一是 Fleet Foxes, 二是 MGMT。 這兩名字代表美國新血 染指對岸英國修正本土美國 都已行之日久 不修邊幅的搖滾音樂嘈雜景象: 兩者都來自美國。 前是西北 靠近加拿大的 西雅圖, 後是東北 西鄰紐約的 康乃狄克州。 說 Fleet Foxes 獨特的 baroque pop風 憶遠可說到 六O年代的 The Beach Boys； 而 folk rock風格 則給喧囂當下 開通一劑清流。 MGMT 是樂壇上 一向不缺席 卻不見得容易討好搖滾脾胃的 電子動感樂風, 發行時間剛好跨過 20O7- O8。 他們的成名都透過主流發行體系。前者稱霸美國傳媒 Pitchfork,後者跨海貼近英國 NME要糖 他們分別成就這兩地傳媒榜的 年度冠軍專輯

其後 兩者各自代表的"新"風格 續有發酵.. 20O9 英國出產自家的電子新秀 The xx, 拿下英國水星音樂獎的加持； 美國看到老將 Animal Collective帶迷幻的頭殼 玩電子鍵盤發威, 20O9 是個電子新銳熱鬧探頭打天下的一個年份, 'O9年 NME的年度冠軍, 舞 art rock旗幟的 The Horrors 也借重合成音效來摩登。 相較 folk rock, 這涓涓細流也有脈動。美國找到 Grizzly Bear, 英國捧紅 Mumford and Sons。
趁 清新 復興當下, 意外地, 清純此時有了張新臉: 不是民謠不是電子也不是巴洛克風, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart 從紐約帶來心痛疾首的吉它, 要挑起 英倫搖滾勢力前 上個世紀 天真 似乎視世故完全於無物的 noise indie pop..

其實 20O8 還有一個 從今天看來 更不能不提的名字: Bon Iver。 Justin Vernon 化名的 Bon Iver沒有 MGMT發行時間的尷尬 卻有成名地與遲緩性的隱晦。 "隱晦"這兩個字 卻一直是跟著 Justin Vernon的。 反讓世界不得不接受這兩字欲宣示的品味。 Bon Iver迥異於搖滾常態的遁世風情 走紅到美國葛萊美獎 能理解的解釋: 是網路。 網路的推波助瀾 讓這帖味道 一直處於發酵的亢奮狀態, 洄瀾嚐久了 讓人沒他也不行。終於 他紅了 音樂世界變了..

201O年 又是一支美國團: 來自南大西洋區 北端馬里蘭州 巴爾的摩 港口城 和 Animal Collective同鄉的 Beach House, 代表了 dream pop夢幻流行創史來 英國蘇格蘭名牌 Cocteau Twins, 過去在重商視見 與主力傳媒控制下 未能在仙境禮遇的加冕: Beach House譜陳紅塵裡形單的 Teen Dream 竟擠身 NME 201O年終排行前三名! Pitchfork 名列第五。 牛津團 Foals人小志氣高 靠修正邊幅的 新英倫搖滾之聲, 續棒"搖滾"這隻不死鳥的神采.. 嚮導 Spanish Sahara 一路開向 NME, 祭出 年度單曲冠軍 寶座給他..

然後 是這一串 活動還不曾止的名字: 有葛萊美獎加持, Arcade Fire 是加拿大出口的另類搖滾明星,新作能叫人讓路..有水星音樂獎加持:新英倫搖滾 Klaxons挾 未來主義的翅膀才讓新作著陸..

也有水星音樂獎加持: Elbow 的大塊頭, 在老成 卻還能靦腆的 後英倫搖滾風采裡, 要繼續擺臀.. 也有水星音樂獎加持 錢已賺到撐 英國的 新後龐克之聲 Arctic Monkeys, 主唱 Alex Turner 左顧自己要單飛 右盼樂團尚合體 索性趁時雙管齊下 繼續潑賴繼續撈..
這時 解團的英倫搖滾元老 Oasis的 Noel Gallagher, 不向 早解團的英倫搖滾元老 Blur的 Damon Albarn 怪傑看齊, 先是幽幽呼喚 史密斯 這遠走的一代 清新 卻永遠脆弱的搖滾國歌: There is a light that never goes out, 然後要專心推出自己生平 第一張 studio專輯 用自己名字..
