Glen Johnson of Piano Magic:
I’ve never been able to see Felt as just another band. To me, they were always artists, painters, poets. Despite coming from one of the dreariest cities on the planet during one of England’s most miserable decades, they somehow managed to sound timeless, regal, romantic; never more so than on The Final Resting Of The Ark, a rich tapestry encrusted with the jewels of the 20th Century. ”Palisade of pleasure, a circus sound, Paris of the Twenties and New York 60’s underground…”
Though Lawrence sounds so laid back, he’s almost italic, I’ve always felt it had a chilling urgency, like the last dream of a dying man, all peeling gold paint and sunshine cutting through dust. And that crescendo of chiming acoustic guitar, splashing cymbals and Richey Thomas’ muted sax never fails to get my pulse racing. That line, “I painted such a picture that golden fires burned in your head”, is pretty self-explantory. A glorious song. http://feltadeclaration.tumblr.com/post/13067939688/glenjohnson
